It was a long and challenging path from the slums of Mombasa to a web design internship in Nairobi but, step by step, Tobias Ouma was able to escape the confines of his past and bleak outlooks for his future.

“You need more to get a job and succeed than what is taught in schools and universities,” explains Yasmin Mohamed Mounir, a top student from Cairo, Egypt. Fortunately, the Samsung Real Dreams program empowered her with skills beyond the classroom.

Raised in Cape Flats, Johndon was surrounded by a culture of despair, drugs and alcoholism. Now, she works as a personal assistant at a non-profit organization that supports the disabled community.
