Yasmin Mohamed Mounir struggled to find a career path that would satisfy her inquiring mind. While she has always been a top student, Yasmin felt pressure to follow an academic path that did not reflect her interests. Now, she is pursuing her dreams.
"There are jobs out there," she admits. "But young people here lack the practical education and skills needed to get a job." She believes responsibility lies both for companies and young people: “Companies need to hire young people, and we need to continuously seek opportunities to improve our skills to match their expectations.”
Yasmin heard about the Samsung Real Dreams program at her university’s newly opened Career & Entrepreneurship Development Office. She registered immediately. “It was as if they’d read my mind. The program answered many of my concerns about Egyptian youth!” she exclaims. “You need more to get a job and succeed than what is taught in schools and universities. Someone needs to teach the skills that can’t be found in books.”
Those skills are precisely what Yasmin gained through the Samsung Real Dreams program. She gained invaluable leadership, time management, presentation, communication, and job interview preparation skills.
What’s more, the program propelled Yasmin to pursue a path that suits her best. She’s currently researching options ranging from marketing to human resources. And while Yasmin decides her new direction, she volunteers at the university’s Career Development Center to help recruit young people to join the program – a result of her enthusiasm for her newly gained knowledge. “This program truly opened my mind. It made me realize I have choices,” she explains. “I can be anything I want to be. Right now, I want to share this experience with my peers.”
